This camera and I have been through a hell of a lot since I first got it. I remember being in a camera store in London, Ontario when I was 17 years old and the D3 was the “flagship” model for Nikon at the time. I saw the camera in a snowboarding magazine photo annual and wanted to try it in person more than anything.
At the store, they had a demo model of the camera. When I asked the clerk if I could hold it, he asked “Are you going to buy it?” My response was simply “Do I look like I can afford one?” With that being said, the clerk said if I wasn’t interested in buying one, he couldn’t let me hold it. I left that camera store and on my way out, I told myself that one day I would own a camera like that.
Six years later, I’m happily shooting with my very own copy of the camera.
